A carpenter by trade, Bunch's passion for the outdoors spurred his involvement in local conservation groups.  In 1994, he became vice-president of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs, the largest statewide confederation of conservation and environmental groups in the country, serving until 1997.   During that time, Bunch coordinated the Service Learning Project for the Northport Public Schools, integrating community service activities into the classroom.  In 1996, he became licensed in real estate and started a conservation real estate brokerage project as a joint effort of a major real estate company and several conservation groups.

With the MSLC, Bunch is responsible for all aspects of management and development of the organization, implementing its mission and policies.   His activities include land protection, fundraising, and public relations.  He also works with the board of directors, oversees employees, interns and volunteers, and represents MSLC on various committees and in local government.  He has negotiated and closed numerous land protection transactions protecting thousands of acres from development in both Michigan and Ohio.
