Staff, Officers and Trustees of the Medina Summit Land Conservancy

Officers
Christopher Bunch, Executive Director
Chris Bunch became the first Executive Director of the Medina Summit Land Conservancy in July 2000, coming to Ohio from northern Michigan.  He has a wide range of experience in conservation, advocacy, real estate and management of non-profit organizations.

Gail Butler, Lafayette Township, President
Gail Butler has recently retired as office manager for Design Financial Planning Group.   She serves on the board of Friends of the Parks and is County Union President of King's Daughters & Sons.  Gail and her husband have lived in Medina County for 31 years.

Steve Dice, Hinckley Township, Vice-president
Steve Dice lives with his family in Hinckley and is the Director of Operations for Cleveland Metroparks.  Steve has been in the natural resource and conservation fields for over 25 years, with experiences ranging from developing and managing a 400-acre arboretum and nature preserve to law enforcement to upper level management.  In his position with Cleveland Metroparks he is responsible for the operation of 18 different facilities, 200 hundred employees and a $10-million budget.  

John Gillette, Wadsworth Township, Treasurer
John Gillette is an easement donor and one time member and supporter of the Conservancy. Is degreed in accounting and worked in that field for several years before becoming the owner and CEO of a manufacturing company with international markets. Now retired, he devotes time to his passions of antique car restoration, hunting, fishing, and working with his wife Barbara, who preceded him in service on the MSCL board, to help preserve land in the region. In addition to their support and service of the Conservancy, John and Barbara have also donated a conservation easement protecting their Wadsworth Township property.

Sr. Patricia Sigler, Bath Township, Secretary
Sister Patricia Sigler is a member of the Executive team of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Akron, Ohio.  She was a founding member of Crown Point Ecology Center in Bath, Ohio and Revere Land Conservancy.  She is interested in the environment, land preservation, urban sprawl and the effects all these have on the less fortunate among us.

Trustees

Janet Senkar, Granger Township
Janet Senkar serves on the Boards of the Medina Community Design Committee and the Medina City Archives Commission. She is a tireless volunteer and has skills in graphics, photography, computers, accounting and historic preservation.  Janet is a lifelong resident of Medina County.

Ron Clark, Akron
Ron Clark is the Vice President of Environmental Design Group of Akron, a prominent local environmental engineering, landscaping, architecture, and surveying company.    His company is known for their work on the Towpath Trail and the Ohio & Erie Canal Corridor.  Ron's specialty is soil and groundwater studies.  He played a prominent role in the AES campus in Akron and won the first national Phoenix Award for industrial property recycling.  Ron and his wife, Jennifer, live in west Akron with their two sons, and have a daughter who lives in Lakewood, Ohio.  Ron brings to the Board extensive knowledge of local land issues and experience in the revitalization of the industrial landscapes and the creation of green space in our region.        

Laura DeYoung, AICP, PhD, Bath Township
Laura is the Senior Environmental Planner with Davey Resource Group, a natural resource consulting company. Her work includes natural resources analysis for comprehensive plans, drafting environmental zoning, conservation developments, and other natural resource protection plans. Laura has been a resident of Bath Township for 12 years, where she has served on the Bath Township Comprehensive Planning Committee, the Task Force for Land Acquisition, the Scenic Byway Committee, and the Trails and Greenway Committee.

Tony Dietech, Medina Township
Tony is a partner in the law firm of Roetzel & Andress in Akron. A lifelong resident of the region, Tony has been active with numerous community organizations. He became involved with the MSLC when looking at ways to preserve property in Medina Township and has been a supporter of the Conservancy ever since, as well as providing legal services on a number of Conservancy projects.

Dan Nelson, Bath Township
Dan Nelson received a Ph.D. in American history from the University of Wisconsin in 1967. He taught at the University of Akron from 1970 to 2000, specializing in business, labor and environmental history.  He was the first director of the University of Akron Press, 1988-92, and chair of the History Department, 1995-98.  Dan retired in June 2000.

J. Jeffrey Holland, Sharon Township
Jeff Holland is an attorney practicing in Medina and Summit Counties, and is one of the original founders of the Conservancy.  Jeff is a life-long resident of Medina County.   He is a graduate of Denison University, and received his law degree from Franklin Pierce Law School in Concord, New Hampshire.  He is a member of the Medina County Farmland Preservation Task Force, Leadership Medina County and Leadership Ohio, and occasionally serves as Acting Judge in the Wadsworth Municipal Court.

James Gerspacher, Medina City
Jim Gerspacher owns James A. Gerspacher Real Estate, Inc which deals in commercial and industrial property.  He is a member of the Medina County Farmland Preservation Task Force and the Medina City Chamber of Commerce.  Jim is a lifelong resident of Medina County.

Laurel Gress, Guilford Township
Laurel Gress is an active conservationist, serving with Sierra in addition to the Conservancy and other conservation groups.  She works in the accounting department of an Akron law firm and has been a lifelong resident of Summit and Medina counties.

Elaine Lamb, Medina City  
Elaine Lamb is an artist who designs and makes pottery.  She is a member of the Medina City Architectural Review Board and was a charter member of the Medina Community Design Committee.  Elaine has been a resident of Medina County for 33 years.

Cynthia Szunyog, Medina Township
Cynthia Szunyog taught in the Lakewood City Schools for thirty years before her retirement in 1994. She is a member of the board of the Medina Community Design Committee and a founder and trustee of the Friends of the Cemetery.  She serves on the Medina City Cemetery Commission , the Medina Sanctuary Committee of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History as well as the Medina County Farmland Preservation Task Force.  A lifelong resident of Medina County, she owns 93 acres of woodlands in Medina Township.

Andrew Vidra, Medina City
Andy Vidra is a Senior Environmental Planner with the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency where he has worked for 24 years.  He has a B.A. in geology from Kent State University and specializes in water quality management programs, particularly those related to non-profit source pollution.  Andy has been a resident of Medina County for 13 years.

Peg Bobel, Akron    
Peg Bobel has been active in environmental organizations for over 20 years, including service with the Sierra Club and Friends of the National Park, as well as serving as a founding member of the Cuyahoga Valley Trails Council along with her husband Robert.   She served as Executive Director of the Cuyahoga Valley Association from 1998 until 2001.  She and her husband have published 3 books, the most recent of which is "Towpath Companion - A Travelers Guide to the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail."
